Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome Groupon Students!  No need to pre-register for class, just show up at class time for any of the Sirrom Studio classes listed on our schedule page.  Make sure to wear something comfortable that you can move in to class.

Do I need to pre-register for class?  Most of the time, no, just check the class schedule and show up.  Pregregistration is requested for certain classes (see the class schedule) since these classes may not meet each week.  For special classes such as an Artist-in-Residence series, seminars, and workshops it is recommended that you pre-register so you are guaranteed a spot.

Sirrom Studio Class Cards may be used for any Bellydance or Drum class.  All other class rates and payments are handled individually by each instructor.

What should I wear to class?  Something comfortable that you can exercise in.  A hip sash is recommended for the bellydance classes, and a flamenco skirt for the flamenco classes.  You may also want to wear dance shoes, tennis shoes for Samba.  If you have any questions, talk with your teacher.  We do ask that the men taking class wear suitable shirts (tank top, t-shirts, etc.).

How many times a week do you have beginning belly dance?  We offer beginner bellydance classes on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.  Check the class schedule for complete list of our classes.

When can I start a beginner class?  Any time.  You can also start any of the other levels of classes at any time.  If there are any questions about whether or not you are ready to move to another level, talk with your teacher.

How long can I stay in a beginner class?  Each class is different.  Some beginner bellydance classes are based on a 6- week series of classes where you learn the basics of belly dancing.  You can stay in a beginner class as long as you like, but at some point, your teacher may suggest that you move up to the next level.

What about make-up classes if I can't make it to the class I usually take or what if I need to switch to another night?  If you have signed up through LLU, you can take any of the other beginner belly dancing classes during the week.  If you are an SOS member and pay by the class, you can attend any belly dancing class that fits your schedule.

What is the cost of a bellydance class?  The price can range from $17 for a walk-in regular 1-hour class or as low as $10 if you buy a Platinum package.  Refer to the rates page for more information on bellydance and other class rates.

Do you offer private lessons?  Yes, most of the instructors offer private lessons.  Just call the studio to schedule an appointment or talk with your teacher.

What about birthday parties?  We offer children's birthday parties with a belly dance, hula, salsa, or Bollywood theme.

Do I really need to learn how to play zills?  No, you don't, but playing zills is part of bellydance and can be quite rewarding.  Likewise veil, sword, cane, and many other elements are part of bellydance.
